Nest has its own IFTT channel which helps it to interact with other smart home devices. The one thing it lags is that it is not compatible with any of the Apple devices and voice assistant Siri. Thus it is not compatible with the Apple Homekit.
Nest has the auto-schedule feature which helps to change the temperature of the room depending on whether you are in the room, sleeping, or away from the room. Same as Ecobee, Nest too can calculate the time taken to adjust the temperature of the room and act accordingly. One plus point of Nest is that you can create 9 accounts for your dear ones which makes the home-away feature more accurate. The airwave feature is a great way to save energy as it sometimes turns off when the optimal temperature is received and then uses the fan to circulate the air. The Nest can detect motion from as far as 20 feet. It also warns you about disturbances in the furnaces. Since it does not provide additional sensors, you have to purchase according to your needs which may add to the costing.

Ecobee and Nest, both are quite efficient in saving energy. Ecobee does not come with additional sensors which are the same in Nest. One more drawback is that when you turn of Alexa in your Ecobee, a red light turns blinking which can be quite annoying at times. Also, you cannot change Alexa voice assistant to something else in Ecobee which is a bug and is likely to be fixed soon. Nest does not come with room sensors and is not compatible with Apple devices and home kits. In nest, if you can’t coincide home-away and schedule feature as the former will override the latter. Also if you don’t have c-wires installed, it is not possible to run the Nest thermostat.
